Here we have something special for our #FeaturedFriday – a behind the scenes look at the restoration of a Art Nouveau Peacock brooch.
As you can see, when we found him this poor bird was in a sorry state – missing stones and generally a bit grubby. Clara patiently removed all of the remaining stones as many were loose, cleaned all of the metalwork and has then replaced the original stones and sourced period original stones to replace the missing ones to complete the pattern.
During the cleaning work we found evidence that the body of the peacock would have originally been covered in a green enamel – but we decided to leave him in his gold-y state to preserve some of his well loved character.
This brooch is now for sale in our stock – if you are interested in him please drop us a message.
