1940’s Make Do & Mend Wire Necklace

Original price was: £38.00.Current price is: £30.00.

This is a wonderful example of a Second World War ‘Make Do & Mend’ necklace. Created when fashion was in short supply and people were encouraged to re-use what was around.
Made from a bright red plastic wire, this necklace has been crocheted as a thin band, which then twists in on itself to create a spiral design.

These are often credited as being made by factory girls out of leftover plastic coated wire but this is not the case. They were made out of a flexible plastic wire – think scooby strings!

This necklace is VERY short and measures just 14 1/2″ around.
