Victorian Pressed Horn Cameo

This is one of our favourite ever items to come through our collections, a genuine piece of Victorian Mourning Jewellery.

This is a stunning cameo made from pressed horn that has been dyed black to give the appearance of Whitby Jet.  Determining the material has caused much debate here at Glitzy Vintage Jewellery – we were certain it wasn’t Jet but trying to decide which of the many simulants the cameo was made from took a while!

The cameo is set into brass that has been silver plated, though this has been lost in some places due to natural wear and tear.
The piece was originally created as a brooch, you can see the connection points for the missing fittings to the rear but we think it looks stunning as a necklace now!

The cameo measures 4cm tall by 3cm wide and comes supplied on a vintage 16″ sterling silver chain.
