This week for our #FeaturedFriday we thought we would introduce you to the gorgeous Siam Silver or it’s official name Nielloware.
All sorts of jewellery can be found utilising this style of design work, from brooches like our example here to pendants, rings, tie clips, bracelets, bangle, necklaces and cufflinks.
These items were produced in Thailand from 1930 to 1980 – but were most popular in the period from the 1930s to the 1950s; with visiting soldiers from America bringing presents back for their sweet hearts. Each piece was hand carved out of local silver and then filled with an enamel inlay. The inlays were predominantly black or white, however other brighter colours were used on rare occasions. The designs on these pieces usually depict figures from Buddhist and Hindu mythology such as the thunder god and the lightning goddess.
These stunning items will add a touch of vintage exoctica to any outfit.
You can browse a stunning array of Siam Silver Jewellery on our dedicated Pinterest Board.
Both of these items have now sold, but pop along to a market to see if we have any more Siam pieces in stock.
