Swingamajig Festival 2022

Saturday 30th April 2022 saw us visit the city of Birmingham for the very first time. We joined the epic party that is Swingamajig Festival in the stunning surrounds of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens for a day full of 1920’s inspired blend of music, dance, and cabaret.

Our day started early – we were open for sales to the general public visiting the Botanical Gardens long before Swingamajig started. So we were very ready for the music to start when Elle & the Pocket Belles hit the main stage at 2:15pm. Having never seen them before we were blown away by their music, and energy. We just wish more people had arrived early enough to catch their set – note for anyone coming in 2023 GET HERE EARLY!

At this point we need to thank Tom and his team for our amazing trade spot – as you can see in the photo on the left we had a perfect view of the main stage – Kyle barely stopped dancing all afternoon to the wonderful music.

The afternoon disappeared in a blur of amazing outfits, friendly faces and great music – the DJ between bands really kept us on our toes. A special shout out to Marc Lavelle whose amazing magic show was a great chill-out moment when a sit down was needed.

The afternoon continued with the rockier stylings of The Hawkmen, then Kyle’s highlight of the day – the Full Tilt Collective with their brass heavy party music. We didn’t stop dancing all set – so much so we even got a shout out (thanks guys!). They were on reduced numbers thanks to the wonderful COVID – but I really don’t know where the rest of the band would have fit on the stage!
Later we were treated to a super energetic LIVE performance from Mista Trick alongside many special guests – including a return to the stage for Elle & the Pocket Belles.

By now we were getting really hungry – turns out skipping lunch to keep dancing wasn’t the best idea…who knew. Anyway; thanks to Betty’s Bakes for the wonderful sausage rolls that kept us going, the sweet chili ones were incredible.

The final live band of the night was the unique Electric Swing Circus, our hosts here at Swingamajig. Our first time seeing them live – and definitely not the last!
A brilliant set full of classic and new tunes in front of a highly appreciative audience (not just us!).

We have to commend everyone on their amazing outfits – the whole day felt like watching a top notch fashion parade in front of our booth, and we were proud to be able to supply some of the finishing touches with our Vintage Jewellery. Even if you did near enough clear out our stock of Pearls, Paste and Diamanté jewellery – we know to make sure we have more for next year!
