Antique “Maria” Watch Fob Seal

This is a fantastic antique pocket watch fob with a seal for the name ‘Maria’. We love this little fob seal, it has so much character, including a little smiling face hidden in the scrollwork.
The fob ornament is made from brass and set with a natural agate stone that has been engraved with the name ‘Maria’ so that it can be used as a wax seal.
Fob ornaments became highly fashionable from the mid 1770’s and remained so right into the 1930’s, when wristwatches replaced the pocket watch as an everyday timepiece.
We believe this one to be an early example, likely late Georgian or very early Victorian.
The seal face measures 1.5cm wide by 1.2cm tall and the fob has an overall height of 2.3cm
