Here is a gorgeous brooch by the Birmingham Jewellers ‘Male & Jones’.  It features symbolic designs to the fore including flowers, hearts and a shield.
The brooch is made from brass with the front symbols coated in 9ct gold.
It is signed with ‘M & J’ to the rear, indicating it was made by Male & Jones of Hylton Street, Birmingham. Male & Jones were active in the late Victorian and very early Edwardian period – roughly 1887 to 1903.
The brooch measures 1.7cm tall by 4.7cm wide.
